A Night of
Awareness.

Held Monday, August 31, 2026 · West Dallas Multipurpose Center

Still Here: A Night of Awareness was a success. We honored those lives lost to overdose and suicide. We trained community members on Narcan and overdose prevention. We made room for grief and recovery.

What happened that night

  • 01We honored lives lost to overdose and suicide. Their names were read aloud, together, and candles were lit for each of them.
  • 02We trained community members on Narcan and overdose prevention, and sent free naloxone home with the people who wanted it.
  • 03We made room for grief and recovery. Nobody was asked to speak. Everybody was welcome to simply sit.
  • 04The City of Dallas recognized the evening with an official proclamation.

Thank you

To every family who shared a name, every neighbor who learned to carry Narcan, every partner who staffed a table, and everyone who simply showed up and sat with us: thank you. The twenty days continue, and we close them together at CareFest on September 19.

The eight zones

What your day looks like

  1. 1
    You arrive.
Someone at the Front Porch says hello and asks: what do you need today. A Navigator walks with you.
  2. 2
You get what you came for.
A haircut, a hot meal, a screening, a naloxone kit, a form filled out, a legal question answered. Or all of the above.
  3. 3
    You learn one thing.
A 20-minute skill in the Training Room. Or the Four Minute Hero challenge. You walk out able to do something you couldn't do this morning.
  4. 4
    You stay for a minute.
You listen to a song at the Stage. You watch the Candle to Sunrise get rebuilt from that first Monday night. You leave lighter than you came.

Impact

How we know it worked

We ask everyone a five-item pre/post instrument, scored 1–5. It's how you move from a nice event to a measurable shift.

  1. Overdose response knowledge
  2. Confidence using naloxone
  3. Willingness to tell someone you are struggling
  4. Stigma toward people who use drugs
  5. Knowing where to get help
